Common Problems with Boilers
Low pressure on a sealed system
this is something we can talk to you over a telephone call and generally rectify without a call out charge.however sometimes it could indicate there is a leak on heating system and this would be something you need to contact us about
Frozen condensate pipe
When we experience very cold weather conditions it is possible that the condense pipe can freeze. We can talk you through how to rectify this over the phone without a call out charge.
Leaking boilers
seals on boilers sometimes fail – a very common issue. This would require a technician as it is illegal and dangerous to open up a boiler unless you are qualified to do so.
Radiators not heating up
There could be various issues such as air in the system, perished valves, sludge or scale contaminating the system or a defective pump to mention a few.
This would require a heating engineer to identify the source of the issue.
Boiler not firing
There are many things that can cause this issue from gas valves, pcb boards, ignition leads and a multitude of other things. This will require a boiler technician to resolve.
Power flushing
Radiators can become infected with scale magnetite rust and sludge if they are not looked after this can stop them working or impede there performance.if left they can also damage the heat exchanger in the boiler and in some cases this will mean you may have to replace both the boiler pipework and radiators if left unchecked. We are experts at power flushing systems – all our engineers have been trained at Kamco and use the cf90 flushing unit which is able to clean up to 40 radiators in one visit. ( please check the link to kamco as this will explain in more depth what the flush achieves www.kamco.co.uk/powerflushing.html )
Power flushing should be carried out once every 10 years to ensure your system is working efficiently and can also reduce running costs especially with rising gas costs.
We also recommend fitting inline metallic filters such as Magnaclean, Spirotech or the Vaillant filter which picks up metal before it infects the system and acts to prevent your boiler radiators and pipework from becoming blocked. These filters also allow with ease to dose the system with cleaning chemicals and inhibitors such as the market leaders in central heating chemical treatments Fernox and Sentinel. They are cleaned out on your annual boiler service so they are also working optimally.
Smart Controls
North London Heating and Plumbing are experts in fitting smart controls such as Nest and Hive and we are certified to install these products. These type of controls add efficiency to the home, because they learn about your heating requirements. They get to know the temperature you like when you’re at home and turn down down when you are away. You can control your heating remotely using a mobile phone so if you are coming home early you can turn the heating on in advance – or turn if off if you have gone out and forgotton.

Radiators
North london heating and plumbing have vast experience when it comes to fitting radiators and radiator repair. This includes all the different radiators available on the market. The most important aspect of fitting radiators is to size the room up correctly so that the radiator in question is capable of heating that particular size room.
We also fit towel rails to suit each bathroom or cloak room and are also able to take templates for bay windows whether they are angled or curved and have radiators manufactured to suit each application.
We can supply you brochures so if you are interested in having a feature radiator fitted just let us know and we will guide you with this process.
A company we use and one of our favourite is the radiator company who we think make great quality radiators

Megaflo Unvented cylinder installations
We employ specialist engineers who are qualified to fit unvented cylinders. this is extremely important as an unvented cylinder incorrectly installed can be extremely dangerous and we cannot emphasize just how important it is to have the right engineer employed to install this type of cylinder.
The market leaders who manufacture this type of cylinder are Megaflow and Telford – we often fit both types of cylinder dependent upon the budget of our customer.
please see the links to both these companies.

Unvented cylinders are primarily used in properties which require a high flow rate of hot water and generally have more than 1 bathroom ideal for families who are using bathrooms at the same time or a larger property.they have a very quick heat transfer coil when used in conjunction with a system or heat only boiler which essentially means they heat the water up very quickly.
Megaflo and Unvented cylinder installation
Unvented cylinders can be installed in most areas of the home, however locating a cylinder due to the fact they need to have a safety discharge pipe close to an external wall and close proximity to electrics is required and of course space has to be taken into account. our engineers will be able discuss these factors with you and guide you as to where best to site the installation.another factor to take into account is the supply of water from the mains.so flow rates and standing pressure is important.
Upgrading the water supply to increase pressure
We can always look at increasing water pressure and flow rates to the property either by increasing the existing pipework from the road using 25mm poly pipe or fitting a Grundfos home booster system. Our engineers will be able to quote you on this aspect of work if necessary. please check the link to Grundfos

Servicing unvented cylinders
Our qualified unvented heating technicians are able to service Megaflo Telford and every other brand of unvented cylinder. It is very important to service these type of cylinder in order to maintain the 25 year warranty – but filters and scale needs to be removed periodically.
Megaflo Telford unvented cylinder manufacturers warranty
Megaflo and Telford unvented cylinders both have a 25 year warranty on the cylinders themselves however this does not cover the associated safety valves that are required. If the cylinders are not serviced on a yearly basis this will also invalidate the warranties.
